    Most of the natural plant dyes are

    Mordant dyes

    Its color range is limited and its color fastness is poor.

    However, the combination of vegetable dyes and mordant agents (mainly with metal salts) can be used to dye a wide range of colourful colors.

    The same natural plant dye can be dyed with different mordant dyes on the fabric.

    Commonly used mordant is aluminum potassium sulfate (Ming Fan), copper sulfate and ferrous sulfate.

    Mordant dyeing methods usually include pre mordant dyeing, synchronous mordant dyeing or post mordant dyeing.

    In the pre mordant dyeing, the degumming silk was put into a human mordant solution to boil 30min and then dyed.

    The synchronous mordant method is to dye the desired mordant into the dye solution and then dye it with real silk.

    After mordant dyeing, silk is dyed first and then treated with 30min in a mordant solution.

    Different dyestuffs sometimes use different mordant methods to achieve the best dyeing effect, even if the same dye is dyed, such as the use of different mordant to change the mordant method accordingly.

    Silk dyeing with Jatropha curcas flower dyes and three different mordant agents is better than that of pre mordant dyeing.

    The method of simultaneous mordant dyeing of the leaves of the leaves of the alizarin family is better.

    The dye of Lantana camara is suitable for post mordant dyeing.

    Berberine root dye ferrous sulfate mordant is suitable for pre mordant dyeing, while alum mordant is suitable for synchronous mordant dyeing, while copper sulfate mordant is suitable for post mordant dyeing.

    Silk dyeing with walnut bark dyes, pre mordant dyeing is suitable for alum mordant dyeing, while copper sulphate and ferrous sulphate mordant dyeing are suitable for simultaneous mordant dyeing.


      

    Vegetable dyes

    The method of refining is usually to boil raw materials in acid or alkaline solution at 100 degrees, and to boil them in water without acid or alkali, and then dye the fabric directly in human dye solution.

    Silk needs to be degummed first.

    Alkali is usually made of sodium carbonate, while the acid is hydrochloric acid, and the concentration is less than 1%.

    The results of dyeing test showed that the leaves of Jatropha curcas, Lantana camara, madder leaf and Euphorbia leaf were best extracted by acid solution, while walnut bark and Berberis dye were best extracted with alkali solution.

    In all these dyes, except India Berberis, the acid and alkali concentration is 1%, while berberine dye extraction should use 0.8g/1 00ml base solution.

    The time for scouring of the Lantana flower, Euphorbia leaf and walnut bark was 90min, while the 60min time of Jatropha curcas L., madder grass and Berberis root was better than that of the others.

    Euphorbia leaf dye is better than 60min, while Lantana camara is better than 75min.

    The results of dyeing test showed that alum was highly applied in the above three mordant. All of these dyes could get good dyeing effect except Berberis root with 2% concentration of copper sulfate, while berberine dye with 3% concentration could achieve good results.

    The applied concentration of ferrous sulphate mordant is 1% of the leaf dye of Jatropha curcas and madder. The Berberis root and walnut bark dyestuff are 2%, the Euphorbia leaf dye is 3%, while the Lantana flower dye is 4%.


    Mulberry and tea of important economic crops in South China can also be used as plant dyes, especially tea plants commonly planted in the south. Their old leaves are rich in plant dyes.

    Moreover, tea is rich in tea polyphenols. It has strong antibacterial and health functions. It can be used to develop high-grade antibacterial and health care textiles by dyeing silk and wool.

    When 2G tea is put in 200ml water and heated to 85~C for 20min, fabric dyestuff can be obtained.

    Tea dye

    Different colors of mordant can be obtained with different mordant treatments, especially for ferrous fastness and K/S.
