The total planned land area of Shantou International Textile City under construction this time is 5000 mu, including the Global Textile Purchasing Center and Textile Industrial Park; The first phase starts construction of 2000 mu. Among them, the construction of the global textile procurement center and textile industrial park will effectively solve the bottleneck problem that production and marketing cannot be connected and the industry cannot gather and develop intensively, and create a new industrial carrier and improve the industrial chain that integrates production and manufacturing, industrial services, procurement and trading, and intelligent logistics.

At the commencement ceremony, local industrial clusters from Changle, Fujian, and Guangzhou Zhongda (Light Textile City) have formed teams to settle in. The reservation rate of the first batch of factory buildings in the industrial park within three days exceeded 95%, and the reservation rate of the first batch of fabric stores in the global textile purchasing center exceeded 50%.

Xia Lingmin, secretary-general of the China Textile Industry Federation and chairman of the circulation branch of the China Textile Industry Federation, said that Shantou is a famous underwear and home clothes manufacturing city in China, and one of the industrial clusters with a scale of more than 100 billion yuan in the textile and clothing industry. It is hoped that Shantou's textile and clothing industry will strengthen the cooperation and integration of the industrial chain in the new era and achieve win-win cooperation.

The textile industry has a long history in Shantou. After the reform and opening up, with the support and participation of Chaoshan overseas Chinese, Shantou's textile and clothing industry cluster has gradually formed and developed rapidly, becoming a local characteristic pillar industry. In the first five months of 2023, the number of industrial enterprises above designated size in Shantou will increase to 791, with an industrial output value of 53.4 billion yuan.
