The Manufacturing Productivity In The US Is 80% Higher Than That In China.

The US Bloomberg website reported on March 17th that, despite the appreciation of the US dollar since 2014, the US manufacturing industry still benefited from such factors as productivity ranking first in the world, flexible labor market, cheap energy and huge domestic market.

This is the conclusion of a new study by the Oxford economic advisory agency.

The study found that manufacturing in the United States is still "invincible".

Gregory Darko and Jeremy Leonard wrote in a research report: "although the US dollar is strong and the investment in the shale energy industry is greatly reduced, the US manufacturing industry is still the most competitive in the world."

The report says the data are impressive.

The manufacturing output per employee in the United States increased by about 40% between 2003 and 2016, while Germany and the United Kingdom were 25% and 30% respectively.

Although productivity in India and China has doubled, productivity in the US is still 80% to 90%.

It is this high productivity that helps the United States to reduce unit labor costs, or wages related to the output of workers.

Two analysts wrote: "because China's wage increase has greatly exceeded productivity growth and RMB appreciation, China's unit labor cost is only 4% lower than that of the United States."

There are other risks ahead.

Two analysts wrote: "the revaluation of the US dollar by 20% will definitely weaken the competitiveness of the United States, make China an attractive production center again and make Japanese manufacturers benefit greatly."
