Interpretation Of The Form Of Corporate Leaders' Expressive Power
Among the people I know, Edgar is the best at self-monitoring. He is in the United States. Social circle Li is a celebrity and a popular figure. He and his wife usually hold or attend fundraising parties every Sunday evening. However, Edgar claimed to be an introvert. He said, "I'd rather sit there reading or thinking, than talking to people."
But Edgar had to always fall into conversation with others. Once someone else becomes a guest at a banquet, Edgar will enter his role. "From University, and even recently, before I attend a dinner or cocktail party, I need to prepare an index card and write 35 interesting little stories on it. I take these cards with me during the day, and if anything touches me, I will write them down. Then, at the dinner party, I will find the right time to tell these little stories. Sometimes I go to the bathroom to take out my little card to read the story above.
How many of us can really transcend our instinctive instincts? Maybe professor Littell is just a good actor. Many of the company's presidents also have talent for acting. So what about the rest of us?
Psychologist Richard Lipa has tried to answer this question. He summoned a group of introverts to his lab and asked them to pretend to be giving the students a math lesson to become an extrovert. Next, he and his team began taking videos with cameras to measure the pace of these introverts, the eye contact with the students, the proportion of lectures to the total classroom, the speed and volume of speech, and the duration of each teaching session. They also assessed their general outgoing behavior through recorded voice and body language.
Then, there's another real group of people. Extroverts The above experiments were also carried out. He found that although the latter group was more outgoing, many camouflaged extroverts were convincing. In this way, most people still know how to disguise themselves to a certain extent. Whether we are aware of this, our pace, the time of lectures and the smiles on our faces will unconsciously reveal whether we are introverts or extroverts.
Of course, the degree of self-control we can control is limited. Part of the reason is what we call "behavioral disclosure", that is to say, we will unconsciously expose our true selves through our body language. For example, at some point, extroverts will engage in eye contact with others, while introverts will move their eyes in a subtle way. For a skilled speaker, they may regard the audience as a burden, but he will make the speech more interesting.
How did these extroverts in the experiment of Li Po make themselves so close to the real extroverts? The study found that introverts, especially introverts who could disguise themselves as extroverts, usually scored highly on one trait, which was called "self monitoring" by psychologists.
self Monitor In the context of different social needs, it is very skillful to adjust their behaviors. They will look for clues to tell themselves what to do.
However, as time went on, Edgar had no need to bring these prompt cards to the dinner party. But he still thinks he is an introvert, but he has been able to deeply enter his role as an extrovert, and it is becoming more and more natural for him to tell those anecdotes. In fact, the highest degree of self-monitoring is not just the expected effect and emotion in specific social situations, but also in self monitoring.
Unlike people like Edgar, those with low self-monitoring control their behavior according to their internal compass. They can mobilize less leadership and social interaction, and they are less sensitive to contextual clues, such as how much fun they want to share at a dinner party, and they are not very interested in role playing. They even know what can be useful clues and do not want to follow this clue.
Whether professor Littell or Alex, to some extent, they are self-monitoring people, constantly observing their listeners or people around them, finding out from those subtle signs that they are happy or bored, so as to adjust themselves to meet their needs.
