Cleaner Production In Pingyang Reduces Tannery Sludge 85%

Through major changes in the key processes such as expansion and tanning, Wenzhou Baoshi Leather Co., Ltd. successfully launched clean production at the tannery base, which reduced the sludge volume in the leather making process by 85%.

Tanning is a pillar industry in Shui tou town. It also brings serious environmental pollution as well as huge economic benefits.

After years of joint efforts by Party committees, governments and tanning enterprises at all levels, the total number of tannery bases has been reduced substantially, and the discharge of waste water has been up to standard.

However, the sludge produced in tanning process as another source of pollution has been plaguing the leather industry.

Drum is almost synonymous with pollution.

When interviewed by Baozhen City, the reporter saw that the busy drum was constantly running, and the leather was depilated, expanded and tanned.

According to introducing, this is the earlier stage of leather making process, and also the most polluted part of leather making industry.

Especially in the process of raw material expansion and tanning, lime and chrome tanning agents are added, resulting in a large number of sludge becoming a heavy source of pollution.

Interviewed by the head of the tannery management committee told reporters that in order to deal with a large number of sludge generated every day, the government has invested 11 million 600 thousand yuan, and built two sets of daily burning of 60 tons of sludge incineration works, but still can not digest the base daily sludge volume.

At the same time, enterprises have to pay for sludge incineration - 100 yuan per ton.

To solve the problem of sludge pollution in traditional tannery industry, Baozhen company has been looking for answers.

In June 2007, the company and Zhejiang Shenghui Chemical Co., Ltd. jointly carried out the technical research, and independently innovating on the basis of digestion and absorption of leather cleaning technology at home and abroad.

After many experiments, we have overcome the technical problems such as chemical screening and its application methods, operation of overloaded drum and so on. We have grasped the new technology of comprehensive treatment of sludge harmless and decrement.

That is to say, in the expansion process, 5% of the soaking agent is used instead of 8% lime, and the amount of sulphide seal is reduced. The amount of chrome tanning agent is reduced in the tanning process, and the waste chromium solution is heated.

The general worker of the company calculated the accounts for the reporters: after the new technology was applied, the amount of sludge generated from the expansion of raw materials was reduced from 85% kilograms to 100 kilograms, and the amount of sludge generated from the expansion of raw materials was reduced by about 85%. The amount of COD and GOD in the wastewater decreased by 50% respectively. The amount of tanning agent saved and the amount of chromium contained in the waste water was reduced by 2000.

At the same time, 100 kilograms of sludge does not need to be treated by incineration. It can only be burned through the boiler of its own company, and the steam generated during the burning process can be reused as energy.

In this way, not only reduced pollution, but also saved the incineration expenditure of 100 yuan per ton.

Chen Chengyong, chairman of Baoshi company, is full of confidence and expectation for clean production of leather.

He hoped that the new technology could be popularized at all bases, because the personal strength was limited after all. Only all tanning enterprises could achieve clean production, and the pollution sources could be truly controlled, so that the tannery environment could be further purified.

Only in this way can we really keep the "skin" of water head.

The head of the water head tanning base management committee said that most of the tannery enterprises in the water head are using lime and hay removal technology. In the future, the clean production of Baoshi company will be promoted at the base, so that the tannery industry can continue to develop.
