Soochow University School of Art

The school of art of Soochow University is now located in the higher education area of the Suzhou Lake Industrial Park, and consists of four independent buildings with modern design. The predecessor of the Academy of art was the Department of Arts and crafts of Suzhou Silk Institute of technology founded in 1960. After 51 years' efforts, it has developed into a comprehensive art college with strong teaching staff and relatively complete professional orientation.

The Art Institute has eight teaching units and ten professional directions, namely, the fine arts department, the dyeing and weaving art department, the clothing art department, the visual communication department, the environmental art department, the music department, the art department, the design basic course department and so on. At present, it has a campus "intangible cultural heritage research center", an art design institute, a creative industry and Design Institute, a golden sun textile design and Research Center, a dream orchid Design Institute, an art teaching experimental center, a Chinese Art Association Suzhou powder painting creation center, and a computer and ceramic art, dyeing and weaving, clothing, engraving and piano room and other laboratories and workshops. The Institute has a post doctoral research station of art, with a master's degree in art design, a master's degree in art, a master's degree in design arts, a master's degree in fine arts, a master's degree in Arts (MFA) and a master's degree in engineering. "Art" is the first batch of advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu province. The Faculty of art has 118 faculty members, 94 full-time teachers, 21 professors, 33 associate professors, 34 lecturers, 10 doctoral tutors, 46 master tutors (including double cross), and 1 teaching masters in Jiangsu. At present, there are 2280 PhD students, master's degree students, undergraduates and adult education students.

The Institute of Fine Arts in 1960 set up a major of dyeing and weaving art. In 1983 and 1989, it founded the major of fashion design and fashion show. It has trained the first generation of postgraduate, undergraduate and fashion show junior college student of fashion design, and has filled the gap of domestic clothing education. In 1988 and 1990, decoration design and garment technology were established. The students are distributed in twenty-six provinces, autonomous regions and overseas, and graduates are employed in state organs, universities, factories, enterprises, education and scientific research, press and publication. Many of them have become leading cadres, technical backbone and academic leaders. Among them, five of the top ten fashion designers were named, and one of them was named for dyeing and weaving fine arts masters. At the same time, our college students have won frequent awards in various competitions at home and abroad, and have made great contributions to the development of China's textile, silk and arts and crafts. After fifty years of construction, the college has developed into an influential school of art in China.

In recent years, through the teaching reform, the Institute of art has established a teaching system with distinctive characteristics, such as wide knowledge, solid foundation, professional creativity and strong adaptability. In 2002 and 2007 respectively, the Ministry of education passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation, and the quality of education entered the forefront of similar institutions. The teaching of clothing art, dyeing and weaving art, basic pattern and decoration color is in the leading position in the whole country. Basically developed a professional development pattern guided by design art and coordinated development of fine arts and music subjects. In recent years, the school has published hundreds of monographs and collections of paintings and papers. Various works have participated in exhibitions and competitions both at home and abroad. There are 13 entries in the Eleventh National Fine Arts Exhibition every five years. There are numerous awards for other categories of design, art and music. Fei Xiaotong, vice chairman of the NPC, came to the college to make an inscription. Especially in the autumn of 1995, Li Lanqing, vice premier of the State Council, visited the college personally, which was a great encouragement and encouragement to all teachers and students.

Introduction to schools and Colleges

Soochow University is located in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, formerly known as the Soochow University founded in 1900. It is the national "211 Project" key university and Jiangsu provincial key comprehensive university. The school has 5 campuses, covering an area of 3118 mu. The Art College of Soochow University was formerly the Department of Arts and crafts of Suzhou Silk Institute of technology founded in 1960. The Institute has 17 professors and 31 associate professors, including 5 doctoral tutors, 25 master tutors, 1 teaching masters in Jiangsu, and laboratories and workshops such as computers, ceramics, dyed fabrics, garments, printmaking and piano rooms. Among them, the textile and costume design experiment center is the national level experimental teaching demonstration center construction site and art design experiment center, and now it is the experimental teaching demonstration center of Jiangsu province.
