Donghua University, located in Shanghai, China, was founded in 1951. Its predecessor was East China Textile Institute of technology. It was renamed as China Textile University in 1985, and was renamed Donghua University in 1999.

It is a comprehensive university which is mainly supported by science and engineering and supplemented by liberal arts.

In 1960, it was designated as a key university by the Ministry of education of People's Republic of China. It is one of the first universities in China to have the right to grant three degrees of doctorate, master's degree and bachelor's degree.

The two campuses of the school are located in Changning District (West Yan'an Road 1882) and Songjiang District (Songjiang District 2999 North Renmin Road), covering an area of nearly 2000 mu, and the campus environment is beautiful and pleasant, which is called "Shanghai garden unit".

The Songjiang campus of Donghua University is located in the new urban area of Songjiang, located in the northeast of Songjiang University Park. It is located in Sheshan, a national tourist resort, and a historical and cultural town in the south, Songjiang.

Songjiang University Park is 30 kilometers away from the center of Shanghai, surrounded by Shanghai Hangzhou Expressway, Shanghai Qingping expressway, 318 national highway, rail pit line 9 and other roads crisscrossed, and the traffic is very convenient.

Donghua University Songjiang campus covers an area of about 1500 mu, with an area of nearly 330 thousand square meters.
