On The Occasion Of The First Anniversary Of Brexit, Britain Formally Applied To Join The Cptpp

On February 1, Britain formally applied to join the comprehensive and progressive trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (cptpp).

British Prime Minister Johnson said that the application to become the first new member to join the cptpp one year after "brexit" shows Britain's ambition to trade with partners around the world under the best conditions and to become a global champion of free trade ".

Britain's International Trade Secretary, Mr. TRAS, said he looked forward to the formal start of negotiations in recent months. She said joining the cptpp would increase UK access to fast-growing markets and major economies, reduce tariffs on UK food, beverage and automotive industries, and create new opportunities for modern industries such as technology and services.

The predecessor of cptpp is the "trans Pacific Partnership Agreement" (TPP). It was signed and entered into force at the end of 2018. It aims to eliminate trade barriers among member countries. The agreement covers 498 million people, and the total GDP of member countries accounts for about 13% of the total global economy. According to the data released by the British Department of international trade, the trade volume between Britain and cptpp members will reach 111 billion pounds (about 152.1 billion US dollars) in 2020, which has increased by 8% annually since 2016.
