"Foreign trade entities have increased nearly 22 times in 26 years, among which private enterprises are the backbone of Shaoxing's foreign trade." Li Xuemin, deputy director of Shaoxing customs, said that since 2002, private enterprises in Shaoxing accounted for 50% of import and export for the first time with a proportion of 53.7%. In 2018, private enterprises accounted for more than 80%.

The implementation of policies and measures has promoted the growth of foreign trade entities, and the import and export of Shaoxing has started a leap forward road by leaps and bounds. According to the statistics of Shaoxing customs, in 1993, the total import and export volume of the whole city was 230 million US dollars; in 2000, the total import and export volume of the whole city exceeded 1 billion US dollars for the first time. In 2004, with the change of foreign trade operation right to the record registration system, the number of authorized enterprises in the whole city increased rapidly, driving the total foreign trade volume of Shaoxing to a new level every two years. Last year, the city's total import and export volume increased to 35.64 billion U.S. dollars, and has entered the ranks of major foreign trade cities.

Shaoxing enterprises rely on foreign trade outlets to take off. Now, cross-border e-commerce has become another outlet for foreign trade enterprises. "Cross border e-commerce plays a very important role in the development of enterprises. The new orders brought by e-commerce in our company now account for more than half of the turnover." "At present, cross-border e-commerce is developing very fast, and online trade fairs are also carried out in large numbers, which increasingly rely on advanced digital technology."
