Professor Yu Mingfang, Founder And Leader Of Chemical Fiber Industry, Passed Away.

Academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, Yu Mingfang, professor and doctoral tutor of School of materials science and engineering, Donghua University, died in April 12, 2020 in Shanghai due to illness.

Yu Mingfang, born in Shanghai in October 1927, was born in Yin County, Zhejiang province. He graduated from private Soochow University in Shanghai in 1948. He served as director and chief engineer of Shanghai synthetic fiber research institute. In 1950s, we participated in the preparation of the first self built synthetic fiber experimental factory in our country, spun the first synthetic fiber made by ourselves, and became one of the founders and academic leaders in the field of chemical fiber in China.

Since 1960, he has chaired many kinds of chemical fibers, and has won many provincial and ministerial level scientific progress awards. On the premise of repeated argumentation and multi preparation, we made the first suggestion on key projects of tackling key problems in spinning and weaving technology.

In 1990, he joined in the construction of polyester chip with an annual output of 70 thousand tons in major projects in Shanghai in 1992 and 1993. This project is of great significance to fundamentally change the situation of Shanghai's textile and chemical fiber materials relying on external supply.

He was elected academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.

From the participation in the development and spinning of the first synthetic fiber nylon 6 wire to the first domestic military parachute nylon filament, from the organization and development of polyimide fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber and other high-performance fibers to host the "polypropylene filament spinning directly" project, more than 60 years ago, Yu Mingfang used various research results to solve the Chinese clothing problem and national defense strategy. He made fruitful contributions. He has won the National Science Conference award, the national science and technology progress award, the Chinese Academy of Engineering "Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award", the China Industrial Textile Industry Association spunbond nonwovens "Lifetime Achievement Award", the reform and opening up 40 years, the textile industry outstanding contribution figures and so on more than 20 awards, the textile industry department "advanced worker", the Shanghai Textile Industry Bureau outstanding Party member, Shanghai City Education Department Outstanding communist Communists and many other honors.

In 2002, after being awarded the "Guanghua Engineering Technology Award", he once said, "I am just an ordinary science and technology worker. I have only done what I should do in the past 50 years."
