Chile'S Online Sales Hit Its Lowest Level In 6 Years.
According to Chilean local media, according to the Chilean Business Federation (CNC) report, Chile's social crisis since October 18th (2019) has not only damaged physical sales, but also increased online sales by 16% in the fourth quarter of last year, which has slowed down compared with the growth rate of 29.8% in the third quarter. In fact, according to Transbank data, the fourth quarter of last year was the lowest growth season in nearly 6 years.
CNC research manager explained that the weakest performance in the fourth quarter of last year was mainly due to a sharp slowdown in tourism and entertainment industry, which declined by 5% in the fourth quarter of last year. On the other hand, although business and services continued to grow at two digits, they fell by about 10 percentage points compared with the previous quarter. These changes are also attributed to two factors: one is the social crisis, the other is the relatively high base in 2018.
According to the CNC Research Manager, this year's growth rate should rebound because of the more normalized operation of participants using online sales channels.
In Chile, online shopping accounts for only 6% of the total purchases, while the remaining 94% still go through the physical store.
