    Porous Carbon Fibers With Nano Continuous Pore Structure Developed In Dongli, Japan

    Toray Industries (Inc.), Japan's textile producer, announced the first global porous carbon fiber with nano level continuous pore structure developed in Dongli. Using this fiber as a support layer can reduce the weight of the advanced membrane and make the structure more compact, thereby improving the performance (Note: advanced membrane can be used for separating greenhouse gases and hydrogen production). Dongli will continue to promote the research and development of this new material to promote the carbon cycle, and will work with other companies to develop applications that can continuously develop hydrogen energy.

    According to Dongli, some traditional gas absorption facilities are separating carbon dioxide, biological gas, hydrogen and other gases, which make them occupy a lot of space and consume too much energy, resulting in a large amount of carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, the method of membrane gas separation is widely concerned in the industry. However, the membrane with good gas separation performance and durability has not been developed yet.

    The porous carbon fiber developed in Dongli is thin and soft. At the same time, because of its carbon structure, the fiber has chemical stability and excellent breathability. Therefore, if the fiber is used as the supporting material of the gas film, even if the multilayer is stacked, the gas film can still be compact and light.

    Dongli hopes to contribute to the commercialization of advanced gas separation membranes. The advanced membranes developed with newly developed porous carbon fibers are essential for achieving environmentally friendly natural gas, purifying biological gases and hydrogen production. In developing porous carbon fiber, Dongli combines its unique polymer technology with carbon fiber technology, water treatment technology and separation membrane technology. These technologies are already in the leading position in the industry.

    The existing polymer technology in Dongli enables it to create porous carbon fibers with uniform continuous pores and carbon. Therefore, the creation of porous carbon fibers with nano continuous pore structure can take two methods: first, the size of the porous structure is adjusted from micron to nanometers; the two is the hollow fiber like porous carbon fibers in the fiber center. It is expected that the new porous carbon fiber will be used in electrode materials and catalyst carriers in high performance batteries (for the basic materials for fixing other substances).

    In December this year, Dongli will set up the "R & D innovation center", which will become the global innovation headquarters of the group through cooperation with academic institutions and partners from different industries. In the future, Dongli will seek multilateral cooperation in order to commercialize advanced membranes for gas separation. Dongli hopes to continue its efforts to develop technologies that help solve environmental, resource and energy problems so as to achieve low carbon economy by 2050.
