On August 22nd, IKEA China announced that it will invest 10 billion yuan in China in the 2020 fiscal year (September 1, 2019 -2020 August 31st). The investment direction is mainly focused on three aspects: channel development, digital innovation and upgrading service experience.

In addition to increasing investment, in terms of personnel, IKEA China will also recruit more than 3000 employees in 2019 and 2020, and set up IKEA China Digital Innovation Center. In addition, IKEA also announced that the mall will open in Shanghai before the Spring Festival in 2020, covering an area of about 8000 square meters. In the future, IKEA will also upgrade the existing shopping malls in an all-round way, and the Xuhui shopping mall in Shanghai will become the world's first transformation shopping mall.

IKEA China says it will further develop and integrate new online and offline channels in the future, so that it will be closer to consumers. However, with regard to the current sales volume of online channels, IKEA said that due to the shorter development time, specific data could not be released.

But for the question of whether to enter the third party business platform, Anna Pawlak-Kuliga, President of IKEA China, said: "in the Chinese market, we clearly realize that it is impossible to fight alone, so we are exploring various kinds of cooperation."

According to the media, weak growth in performance may be an important reason for IKEA's active transformation in the Chinese market. According to the financial report, in the 2018 fiscal year, IKEA China's sales volume was 5 billion 500 million yuan, an increase of 5.59% over the same period last year. In the past 2016 fiscal year and 2017 fiscal year, IKEA China's sales growth was 19.05% and 14.4% respectively.
