In terms of policies, we need to ensure stable and healthy development of the whole industry through steady industrial production, stocktaking, supply and cost reduction. This year, the domestic market is rich in resources.
Statistics show that in 2018/19, cotton production in the whole country was 6 million 110 thousand tons, an increase of 1.05% over the same period last year. According to customs statistics, in the first 8 months of 2018, China imported 1 million 256 thousand tons of cotton, an increase of 83% over the same period last year. At the same time, the proportion of China's cotton importing countries has undergone structural changes, and Brazil cotton imports have increased significantly. The textile industry is stable and pressure bearing, and the output of yarn and cloth is decreasing. The export of textile and clothing has basically remained stable, and domestic cotton consumption has been steadily decreasing. Cotton prices both showed a downward trend this year, and international cotton prices fell more than domestic prices.
Looking forward to the future, she said that China's cotton industry will be guided by high quality development. Government management will continue to maintain the principle of controlling the bottom line, determining rules, and supervising afterwards. At the same time, in the face of various pressures brought by Sino US trade friction, China's cotton industry must always be determined, confident and well intentioned.
