Look At The Fate: India'S Retaliatory Tariff Measures On The United States Are Waiting For "Opportunity".

As the United States increased import tariffs on steel and aluminum products in March 2018, it intended to abolish the universal preferential tariff system (GSP) granted to India.

In response to this, India also announced in June 20, 2018 that it would retaliate against 29 items of almonds, apples and phosphoric acid imported from the United States, and raise tariffs on products valued at $10 billion 600 million. However, it has repeatedly delayed the implementation date, while the two sides have continued consultations on relevant trade issues, but have not been able to reach an agreement because India believes that the US demands a disproportionate commitment.

The 60 day notice period has passed. If the president of the United States will announce the cancellation of the GSP treatment, India remains closely concerned. In May 1st, the India government announced that the implementation date of the United States retaliatory duty was postponed to May 16th in order to await the final decision of the United States. The official of the Ministry of Commerce of India said that if the United States formally announced the cancellation of the GSP treatment in India, India might impose a retaliatory duty on the United States.

The US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross will visit India in May 6th. During the trade forum "Trade Winds Indo-Pacific Forum and Mission 2019", it will also hold bilateral talks with the Minister of Commerce and industry of India, Suresh Prabhu.
