The World'S First! Cellulose Nanofiber Composite Material Is Applied To ASICS New Running Shoes.

The research and development achievements of Japan's New Energy Industrial Technology Development Institute (NEDO) project, the "PMC STARCEL" developed by Xingguang PMC company, has been used in the latest running shoes of ASICS company.

The composite "STARCEL" is an excellent achievement of NEDO's cooperative research project. The project is based on the cooperative R & D team of Kyoto University, which is responsible for the development and manufacturing process of CNF enhanced resin. Starlight PMC started its commercialization of composite materials in January 2018.

This "STARCEL" material is adopted by ASICS's latest product, "GEL-KAYANO 25", as the sole material for running shoes. It is the first CNF composite to be sold worldwide.

Cellulose Nanofiber (CNF) is a biomass derived, lightweight, high strength, low thermal expansion nanofiber.

Combined with resin, it is expected to be applied in many fields.

Japan's new energy industry technology development institute (NEDO) has carried out a series of theme projects "CNF enhancement resin materials and its manufacturing process" series *1.

The specific circumstances of the project are as follows: CNF enhanced by the industry university research cooperation group, which is the main body of Kyoto University.

The comprehensive development of the processing technology (Kyoto process) of nanomaterials (*2) was prepared by mixing the modified cellulose from wood pulp chemically treated with polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) resin at the same time.
