Will The Next Stop Of The Fashion Design City Be China?

The London Museum of design is exhibiting a design retrospective exhibition entitled "design city".

In order to clearly show the context of the development of modern design, curator DeyanSummit tried to use specific cities at specific time points as a clue, because "design is like architecture, reflecting the desire and aesthetic orientation of local people at that time," Deyan said.

The exhibition begins with the London World Exposition 1851. It passed through Vienna in 1908, Dessau in 1928, Paris in 1931, 1949 in Losangeles and Tokyo in 1957, and Tokyo in 1987. Finally, the design of the historical journey ended abruptly in the present London.

"Where will the next design city be?"

In response, Deyan mentioned the names of 3 countries - China, India and Germany.

It is not hard to see that China and India have been listed as candidates on the basis of their strong economic strength. But judging from the perspective of design culture output, Berlin is undoubtedly the most dynamic city in the European continent.

German design seems to be the pronoun of "functional supremacy".

In the early twentieth Century, as the birth place of modern design, Germany naturally became the establishment of future design standards.

However, when German designers took the principle of systematic functionalism as the principle and almost completely abandoned the traditional rule of visual beauty and spread it to the world, they also gradually created some deep-rooted Prejudices: although German design products are excellent, rigorous, effective, highly standardized, and many other advantages, they appear dull and boring in many cases.

However, a few days ago in the 706Loft space of Beijing 798 Art District, "two things, two things," the German designer group exhibition showed another completely different design face -- creativity, sense of humor and Reflection on daily life.

The most popular concern in the exhibition is the BLESS, the most advanced avant-garde design group in Europe after Martin Margiela.

The BLESS design combination was established in 1997 by InesHaag, born in Austria and Germany, in Germany. It is not only unique in fashion design, but also in various ways of expression, such as art, design and architecture.

Although most people talk about their "temporary store" business mode, as well as interaction and cooperation with friends and other interested parties, the core is their design concept, which is based on people's real needs and pursue simple comfort in daily life.

DESIREE told ArianaSpeyer in New York magazine NewYorkMagazine that "I hardly see any fashion magazines, so I don't know what is in fashion now."

What we want to do is to find ways to solve the problems we encounter in our daily life, that's all.

It is like a sunglasses with a sun hat, a fur wig with a hat function, a ladder box that can absorb debris on the steps, and an eye shadow fixed outside the landscape to make toilet decorations.

These new designs have really solved many problems which have been neglected in people's daily life. The humorous shape not only makes viewers smile, but also provides another perspective for observing life.

The rules are used to break. Two pieces of furniture in the exhibition are very special, and the designer is Proxy of Berlin.

This design studio specializes in the design of unique or limited edition living room furniture. They are best at using the banter way to deconstruct the furniture types that are already deeply rooted in culture and their production and use standards. The unique concept of "author type" furniture in modern art is created by Proxy.

This "immovable" design process has changed the inherent impression of Germans' "one by one, step by step" and seen that contemporary design in Germany is exploring social problems with a hidden humor.

One of the exhibits is a new storage cabinet made up of two IKEA closets. It is called the detective story "Whoduit". The particleboard and cherry wood pressed skin are clearly exposed in the two staggered parts of the closet, and the interior of IKEA is clear inside.

The design of the finished product is now very popular in Europe and is known as IKEA IKEAHACKER.

In October this year, the winner of the "Platform21 IKEA" (Hack-your-IKEA) design competition launched by the Platform21 was also from Germany - currently studying at University of the Arts in Berlin.

Her prize winning work is a toy hanger that can provide children with clothes, gloves and scarves - "ERIK", which is made of IKEAFNISS waste paper barrels and two IKEASTATIST decorative trees.

Since the merger of East Germany and Germany in the 90s of last century, Germany has enriched itself with its great inclusiveness and cultural diversity. It has gradually become a new European cultural and Art Center after London and Paris. Berlin's low living cost, free humanistic environment and relatively loose political atmosphere have attracted many artists, designers and young artists to settle down and seek development.

Their arrival has made German culture a certain degree of internationalization and diversity.

This is also reflected in today's 798, Liu Zhizhi, curator of "two things, two things". The designers and artists of this exhibition are relatively young and new design forces. Because of this, what they see is the true appearance of German contemporary design, or even the future trend - not to challenge the traditional design system in order to publicize their attitude, but to give a feasible solution to people's daily life problems and social problems which are ignored.
