VF Believes That Asian Manufacturers Still Have A Grasp Of The Supply Chain Of Textile Industry.
Despite rising manufacturing costs in China, VF believes that Asian manufacturers will continue to master the global garment supply chain.
Speaking at the International Apparel Federation (IAF) conference, Thomas Glaser, general manager of VF, said that the textile industry will still be in Asia.
Although costs are rising, they are still relatively cheap, and more importantly, they have vertical supply chains, which are cloth producing areas.
VF is an American listed company with brands including Wrangler, North Face and so on. There are 40 factories in the world that produce 35% of sales products.
The location of the plant includes Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Poland and Turkey, and is continuing to develop new factory locations, most likely in the Middle East.
VF said it would adjust the entire supply chain structure based on global sourcing balance.
Over the past 8 years, the number of VF factories has been reduced by 27%, and many purchases have been pferred to Asia.
VF has 1400 global contractors, mostly in Asia, and 15% of them are from China.
Glaser said that VF's procurement of Asia is still small compared with other brands' competition. VF hopes to support the North American market, including Mexico and the Caribbean, which are promoted by trade agreements between NAFTA and CAFTA.
VF produces 75 million jeans each year in Mexico and imports it into the United States.
