But with the escalating competition among businesses and the rapid rise of online shopping in a downturn economy, "black Friday" has become a shopping sign, not the lowest price day, and the real consumption season will last for weeks.
According to the Wall Street journal, a joint survey by the newspaper and price analysis firm Decide found that the discount offered by businesses on "black Friday" is not necessarily the best in the whole year.
Through the statistics of hundreds of promotional advertisements over the years, Decide found that 1/3 of the products had been sold at other discount days at a lower price.
For example, a mixer sold by department store Sears will sell for $320 after half off this week, but in March this year, the same mixer only bought 296 dollars, which was 598 dollars more than a dishwasher advertised by Home Depo, but in fact, the product had been discounted to $538 last month. There was also a similar way to "iPod 32G" in the store.
