According to preliminary estimates by experts, the production of adhesives and sealants in China in 2007 was 3 million 125 thousand tons (excluding three aldehyde glue), an increase of 11.53% over the previous year, and sales of 42 billion 600 million yuan, an increase of 25.3% over the previous year.

The growth of sales is much higher than the increase of production. The rapid growth of high quality, high performance and high added value products has become an important reason, because of the rising prices of raw materials and the rising prices of products.

In 2007, the output of high quality and high performance adhesive products increased by more than 15%, and the output of environment-friendly products increased by more than 14%.

At present, the most important factor restricting the development of adhesives industry is the weak ability of new product development and technological innovation.

For example, at present, waterborne neoprene has been successfully developed in Europe, the United States and Japan, but not even in China.

At present, most of the adhesive enterprises in China are short of scientific research funding, and lack of high-quality scientific and technological innovation talents.

This caused many adhesives and sealant manufacturers to product aging, single varieties, product quality and grade is not high, new products and new technology development slow, can not catch up with the rapid development of market demand.

At the same time, China's adhesives enterprises are lack of intensive and large scale development, and lack of internationally competitive enterprise groups.

According to incomplete statistics, there are more than 3000 production enterprises of adhesives and sealants in China, which are distributed in 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of the country. But the scale of production (annual sales volume is more than 100 million yuan) and technical level are only over 100, so it is difficult to form scale advantages and industry synergy. It is difficult to invest heavily in new product development and technological innovation, environmental protection and energy conservation, and personnel training.

But such a situation is changing.

At present, China Adhesive Industry Association is actively developing 4 products, such as polyvinyl acetate emulsion, hot melt adhesive and so on, to become a famous brand product in China.

Experts said that the market demand for adhesives and sealants in China in the next few years will continue to grow at an annual rate of over 10%, of which the annual growth rate of hot-melt adhesives and reactive adhesives will exceed 12%.

The demand for oversupply of most general-purpose products has not changed, and the demand for some high performance, high quality adhesives and sealants and adhesive products has increased, such as products used in electronics, electrical appliances, precision instruments, automobiles, aerospace and other industries.

Due to the rapid growth of market demand and the enforceability of environmental protection and energy conservation regulations, some environmentally friendly and energy-saving products such as water-based, hot-melt, biodegradable, light curing, room temperature and low temperature curing, solvent free and high solid content products will be developed, and some new products, such as modified, reactive and multi-functional products, will have greater development, and its growth rate will be higher than that of general adhesive products.

Experts also issued early warning information to enterprises: the production capacity of some adhesives and sealants has exceeded the market demand, and the market competition is very fierce. Enterprises should be very cautious when building or expanding projects.

These products include homopolymer poly vinyl acetate emulsion (Bai Rujiao), general building acrylic ester styrene copolymer emulsion, universal type alpha cyanoacrylate instant drying adhesive, medium and low speed book, hot melt adhesive for wireless binding, acrylic resin pressure sensitive adhesive and adhesive tape for BOPP substrate, and general silicone sealant.

In the next few years, the adhesive industry will speed up the formulation and revision of product quality standards, increase the supervision and inspection of product quality, vigorously cultivate and develop famous brand products, further expand the scale of enterprise production, enhance the ability of scientific and technological innovation, and eliminate backward enterprises with small scale of production, low technology level, poor product quality and environmental protection through market competition, and strive to improve the quality and grade of China's adhesive products.
