AQSIQ: Unqualified Imported Garments Mainly Come From Eurasia

The AQSIQ issued the "quality situation of imported apparel products in 2011" in June 27th. The announcement shows that the clothing imported from the domestic market in 2011

Products are mainly produced in Spain, Italy and Turkey and other countries.

The unqualified situation is mainly Chinese identification, color fastness, fiber content and part of pH value, formaldehyde content, decomposable aromatic amine dye is not qualified.

According to the announcement, the 2011 inspection and quarantine institutions of the whole country accepted the 36951 batch of imported clothing inspection, the total value of goods was 52 million 320 thousand, the value of goods was $695 million 360 thousand, and more than 50% were imported from Shanghai port. Other main import ports were Beijing, Shenzhen and so on.

The top three are Hongkong, Italy and China.

It accounts for about 52% of the total imports.

India and Vietnam are the main sources of sports brand and popular brand clothing.

The announcement shows that the 2011 national inspection and quarantine system carried out a sample inspection of 14959 batches of imported garments. The rate of inspection was 40.48%, and 1521 batches of unqualified internal quality were detected, 1668 of the unqualified samples, 730 thousand involving unqualified goods, 12 million 200 thousand worth of goods and 10.17% of batches.

Among them, 46.5% of the tested products were not qualified for color fastness, and accounted for the largest proportion, followed by fiber content, pH value and formaldehyde content.

Imported garments

Mainly from Spain, Italy and Turkey, accounting for about 38% of total unqualified.

The report also pointed out that due to low labor and production costs, relatively backward production processes and low quality control requirements, there were more cases of unqualified rates from Vietnam, India and Bangladesh.

The AQSIQ said that for Chinese products with unqualified Chinese labels, unqualified labels and fiber contents, it is allowed to carry out rectification. For products with unqualified internal quality, they are returned or destroyed.

The report considers that the main reasons for the safety and quality problems of imported clothing products are: the current situation and importance of logistics, differences in safety and hygiene projects among different trading countries, production cost compression and raw material procurement control, incorrect information and so on.
