    Mao Kailin Cooperation Service Industry

Interview with MS. Mao Kailin, director of the international cotton association of the United States

    Karin Malmstrom

    American International Cotton Association

    Chinese director

    Karin Malmstrom

(Ms. Karin Malmstrom) joined the Cotton Council International (CCI) in 2006 and served as the Chinese director in charge of the trade and supply chain services and consumer promotion activities of the association in China. At the same time, it manages the daily work of the association Hongkong, Shanghai office and Beijing representative office.

Ms. Mao Kailin has 25 years' experience in China, and is a China hand.

Prior to joining the international cotton association of the United States, Ms. Mao Kailin worked in Malmstrom Associates Orient, which was founded by herself, mainly engaged in business, marketing and communications, and has rich experience in the field of automobile, steel and tourism, metal and ore trade, technology pfer, education and communication.

Prior to that, she worked in the corporate communications director of DaimlerChrysler, Beijing, a multinational vehicle company. She was responsible for the creation of enterprises and brands in Northeast Asia including Mainland China, Hongkong, China, Macao and Korea, as well as director of the management and Automobile Association of the company.

As one of the promotional activities carried out by the International Cotton Association (CCI) in China, the cotton cotton school has been successfully held for the three time since its first launch in 2006.

Over the past few years, more and more textile enterprises have learned the characteristics and procurement channels of the United States cotton through the platform of this activity, and made better use of the raw material ratio in the production and operation, improving the quality and achieving better cost-effectiveness.

On the eve of the opening ceremony of the fourth cotton cotton school, in order to explore the latest development of the American cotton industry and the highlights of this year's cotton school, our reporter made an exclusive interview with Mao Kailin, the director of the international cotton association of China.

Reasonable purchase: achieving the best product quality

Reporter: in this year's list of experts, the representatives from the international cotton industry and textile industry have a large lineup. The specifications are also the highest since the cotton school was held in China.

What wonderful content will they bring to the participants this time?

Mao Kailin: in recent years, whether global economy, raw material price, consumption market or fashion trend, the change is getting faster and faster.

Nevertheless, people's affection for cotton products will not change. CCI's efforts to promote natural and healthy lifestyles will not change, and close exchanges and cooperation with Chinese industry will not change.

Because of this, it is more important for us to strengthen communication and communication between industries.

The cotton school has been held in China for the fourth time, which in itself indicates that the United States cotton industry has established a good and lasting communication and cooperation relationship with the Chinese cotton industry and the textile industry.

It is hoped that through the platform of cotton school, Chinese enterprises will have a more active and in-depth exchange and interaction with the US cotton industry.

This time we brought heavyweight experts representing the entire US cotton industry: cotton growers, cotton traders and professionals from cotton ginning factories to bring the latest situation of US cotton to the participants.

Because cotton and other cotton systems in other countries are not the same, this time we will focus on the four cotton growing areas in the United States, introducing the characteristics of cotton varieties in these cotton areas, and helping textile enterprises understand what kind of cotton they produce, what kind of cotton they are suitable for, what kinds of cotton and cotton products produced from different varieties and quality, and specific procurement channels.

Jeans, for example, are very representative of cotton textiles.

From cowboy products, cotton yarns used for weaving denim do not necessarily have to use the highest grade cotton.

The course of "cotton school" can help enterprises choose cotton varieties reasonably according to the demand of products, while ensuring the quality of products while saving money, and effectively controlling the cost of products.

Over the past year, the price of the cotton market has been undulating. The supply of the international raw material market has always had unexpected variables.

Therefore, in the current cotton school curriculum, we also set up the risk management content specially. We hope that through this topic exchange, we can help enterprises effectively avoid the market risk brought by the fluctuation of raw material prices, and learn to gain healthy earnings in the uncertain external environment.

    High-grade cotton

Help increase the added value of products.

Reporter: in recent years, more and more domestic textile production enterprises have purchased the high-grade cotton variety Supima cotton, which has made a positive attempt to improve the product quality and the high added value of the brand.

What do you think of the future development of Supima products?

Mao Kailin: CCI in China's US cotton cooperative certification enterprises, some manufacturers have used Supima cotton for the production of high quality and high grade yarn products and fabrics.

Although the price of this kind of cotton is much higher than that of ordinary cotton, it is still in short supply in a short period of time.

Because most of the fabrics produced from Supima cotton are used for high-end brand production, they can achieve higher profit margins than ordinary products.

At present, China is the largest buyer of Supima cotton in the world. This shows that Chinese textile enterprises have strong demand in using high-grade raw materials and producing high-end quality products. This is also a reflection of the high value added value of China's textile industry in recent years.

Today's consumers are increasingly diversifying their products and demanding higher quality.

In this trend, consumer demand for Supima products has expanded from traditional shirts, sheets and towels to luxury ladies knitwear, basic knitted T-shirts, and even denim fabrics.

With the decline of most of the finished products, high-end products with Supima tag still create considerable profits for textile enterprises.

This year, we specially invited high-level personages from the American Supima association to teach in the cotton school. By introducing the advantages and characteristics of this super long fiber cotton, we can make Chinese textile enterprises understand more about the characteristics of this cotton, so as to develop and produce better products and keep the lead in the fierce market competition.

    Regional trade: more international platform

Reporter: over the past two years since the launching of the China ASEAN Free Trade Area, the trade in textiles and clothing has grown rapidly, especially in the industrial chain of raw materials and yarn.

How can CCI better serve this regional industry cooperation?

Mao Kailin: since the establishment of China ASEAN Free Trade Area, a substantial tariff reduction has promoted the growth of China's textile related trade with these countries, especially in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and other countries.

Not only is the trade of cotton yarn more active, but also ASEAN countries buy Fabrics from China, and then export them to third countries after garment processing.

For example, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Indonesia have low labor costs and increased international clothing orders, which also led to the demand for raw materials and accessories.

The growth of regional trade volume needs wider information exchange platform.

As a global textile supply chain service organization, CCI has offices in Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia.

All the US cotton cooperative certification enterprises can be incorporated into the global supplier database of CCI to share the global downstream buyers' resources. This internationalized platform can help companies find suppliers and buyers more smoothly.

In addition, we invited the US cotton certification enterprises from Hongkong and Southeast Asia for the first time this year, and invited experts from South Korea and Thailand to give lectures on global and US retail market analysis and purchasing trends, and the challenges and opportunities faced by textile producers.

LOHAS health: life style close to nature

Reporter: after the end of this year's cotton school activities, we also arranged a roadshow for consumers to promote. What is the purpose of publicity?

Mao Kailin: as we all know, the economic crisis in the United States and Europe over the past two years has led to a lot of decline in the consumer market.

Both the textile industry and the clothing industry are making every effort to cope with the challenges posed by these unfavorable factors.

The cotton school course will set up a thematic discussion session on the trend of fabric and clothing market and the US Cotton Corp's lecture on the development trend of the US retail market and the future garment market. We also specially arranged a fashion roadshow featuring the theme of "natural beauty and colorful life".

First, we need to strengthen communication among professionals in the cotton textile industry. Two, we need to strengthen communication with consumers, join hands with the US cotton certification brand, and let consumers have more perceptual knowledge of natural cotton products.

In the past two years, CCI's COTTON USA American cotton certification enterprise has expanded from the production chain of spinning mills and weaving factories to home textile enterprises, clothing enterprises and brand enterprises, covering more and more links in the supply chain. Now, we can find COTTON USA American cotton certification brand in the products of denim, home textiles, children's wear, infant clothing and other categories.

In this roadshow, we also hope to convey to consumers the natural and comfortable experience through displaying these rich and stylish products, so that they can have a richer understanding of natural fibers and feel the natural and colorful life brought by COTTON USA.

No matter what the economic trend is, the "healthy life" attitude of LOHAS is always advocated by us. I hope more and more people will recognize the advantages of natural fiber and choose a natural and healthy way of life and consumption.
