India Will Expand Export Of Hand-Made Carpets To China

China and India have decided to expand the export of India hand-made carpets to China, aiming at diversifying trade baskets and resolving trade imbalance between the two countries.

Shri Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and industry of India, met with Luo Huining, governor of Qinghai, China (Anand Anand).

India handmade carpet industry ranked first in the international market.

Sharma pointed out that the total export of hand-made carpets reached US $653 million 860 thousand, but the amount of exports to China was only US $4 million 830 thousand, which was lower than the trade potential of two growing economic powers.

Sharma suggested that India exhibitors display their products at the China Fair, and China should grant tax exemption for a certain amount.

He also suggested that it is necessary to reduce import tariffs on hand-made carpets in India.

He said: "high tariffs allow consumers in the growing number of countries to feel that handmade carpets are expensive.

The Minister of India also suggested that in order to effectively allocate India hand-made carpets in China, bonded warehouse facilities should be built on the (Qinghai) Xining carpet to help importers meet the needs of the domestic market.

He said that we could set up a carpet research team or joint working group to provide suggestions for the two governments.

The export target of the hand-made carpet industry in India in 2011-12 is US $800 million.
