Facing the impact of rising raw materials and increasing labor costs, garment intensive enterprises are facing many difficulties.

It is understood that Yantai garment enterprises 70% do foreign trade processing, therefore, in the face of RMB exchange rate appreciation, European debt crisis and other factors, the clothing industry appears to be "fragile".

"The clothing industry is a large household of Yantai's export earnings, and has always been in the top five."

Lou Liren said that in the third quarter of 2011, the export of garment industry was significantly reduced by the European debt crisis.

In order to reduce costs, many garment enterprises have weakened the relatively low order sales to Southeast Asia, while the high-grade orders sold to Europe and other places are affected by factors such as long supply cycle and unstable exchange rate. Many garment enterprises are in an awkward situation that they dare not answer.

Despite the bad economic situation, Yantai's garment industry is still struggling.

According to the statistics of Yantai garment industry association, from 1 to October, 232 large-scale enterprises made 220 million garments, an increase of 17% over the previous year, 5 percentage points higher than the whole province, 31 billion 300 million yuan in output value, and 960 million US dollars in foreign exchange earning, which is expected to exceed 1 billion dollars a year, an increase of 16% over the same period.

"For the whole industry, it is difficult to recruit workers."

Lou Liren said that due to labor shortages, many factories have relaxed the age threshold for workers, and some have reluctantly reduced their start-up capacity. Some factories have even started 60%.

"Simple processing of raw materials, low profit margins, and being affected by the global economic crisis, foreign trade clothing enterprises do not do well in business."

Sun Jishan, general manager of Yantai Sheng Tai Garments Co., Ltd., said that the profits of some foreign trade processing enterprises were even as low as 5%.

They have been making foreign trade for children's clothing in the United States for many years. In order to reduce the impact of international instability on enterprises, in 2008, their company built their own brand "Mao Mao" while engaging in foreign trade processing. At present, there are 5 stores in Yantai.

Yantai is separated from Japan and Korea and has unparalleled geopolitical advantages in industrial collaboration.

Many years of production and processing have created the sewing technology of Yantai garment enterprises. At the same time, the design concept and style of foreign enterprises also affect the development of Yantai women's clothing industry.

"Yantai's clothing, especially women's clothing, is very developed."

Lou Liren introduced that from the statistics of 313 large-scale garment enterprises in 2010, the output value of clothing in Yantai was 30 billion 500 million, and the output value of Wenzhou clothing was 28 billion.

From the data contrast, we can see the dominant position of Yantai clothing in the whole country.

Lou Renli said that the extension of the industrial chain, the creation of independent brands will become a major trend in the development of women's clothing industry in Yantai.

Lou Liren said that foreign trade processing enterprises are still encouraged to pform products from low to middle grade.
