Dominica's Exports To The US Textile And Apparel Industry Have Increased Rapidly.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), sponsored by the DR-CAFTA implementation plan, invited the economist NassinJos e AlemanyIsaac to refer to the "DR-CAFTA agreement on the impact assessment of Dominica industry" conducted by the Dominica Foreign Trade Office (Dicoex).

Since the implementation of the DR-CAFTA agreement, Dominica's exports to the United States have grown by 73%.

Most of the raw materials used in Dominica rely on imports from the United States, and the raw materials imported by the United States account for 40% of the domestic demand in Dominica.

In addition, Dominica's 78% trade deficit with the United States comes from imports of petroleum, machinery, automobiles, cereals and plastic products.

While Dominica has a favorable balance of trade for the major US export products in terms of shoes, medical equipment, textiles, sucrose and cigars, the report also points out that the DR-CAFTA agreement has positive effects on Dominica's trade with Central American countries.

Since the implementation of the agreement, Dominica's exports to Central American countries have grown by 53%.
