FLO Launches Fair Trade Plan To Benefit Textile Workers

According to the current fair trade cotton Standards, textile manufacturers are working with the Fairtrade Cotton World Fair Trade Organization and must demonstrate their commitment to abide by the core labour standards of the International Labour Organization.

At present, there is no fair trade standard specifically formulated for textile workers. However, manufacturers must meet one of 8 indicators, such as SA 8000 (Social Responsibility Standard System) certification or a letter of guarantee issued by the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions ICFTU.

FLO International textile department manager Rossitza Krueger said, "with the implementation of this work plan, we hope to surpass the core labor force." At present, the organization is supervising 5 parallel development strategies for a major project to determine how to achieve fair trade in the textile industry and bring a positive impact on textile workers.
