Zuckerberg's Heart Seemed To Hide A Child.

    The Bund PictorialFacebook Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was elected "figure of 2010"

In December 15th, Time magazine announced that Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg He was elected "figure of 2010". One month before the announcement, Martin Sule, a famous American portrait photographer, was invited to take pictures of the times. Suer spent a month in the studio, office and Zuckerberg often went to bars, shooting for Zuckerberg. Recently, suer accepted his personal studio in New York. The Bund pictorial Telephone interview. In his eyes, Zuckerberg is confident and visionary, but "his heart seems to hide a child".

In a photo studio in San Francisco, the United is the famous Phoenix of the mini player. The founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, is not infected by the mass of synthesizer music and retro style. He stood in front of a white background plate, motionless. His figure does not look big: he is about 173 centimeters tall, wearing a T-shirt, jeans and a pair of grey sneakers, just like members of the University fraternity.

Photographer Martin Sule (Martin Schoeller) uses an old hand camera. Every shake will give a click. Zuckerberg's expression changed rapidly in just 2 seconds. From cold to expressive, his jaw suddenly lifted and his mouth turned upwards, revealing several front teeth. After taking a picture, he immediately resumed his solemn expression and began to go round and round again.

"Maybe you can't laugh." Su Le suggested.

Zuckerberg was somewhat surprised. He picked up some frozen smiles and tried to raise his chin. Although he had been told to "photograph only the face," he unconsciously pushed his thumb back into his trouser pocket, sideways and stood up, and still slightly tiptoed, trying to see more.

He filmed and chatted with him. Zuckerberg replied very quickly, usually very short, one question and answer, and then the cold. In the end, suer threw out two questions about family.

    "Where does your family live?"

    "New York."

    "Is it New York?"

    "No, it's peripheral."

At last, Zuckerberg's stiff expression melted, and the photographer got the picture he wanted: curly hair stuck to the scalp, high nose bridge, green clear eyes like deep pools, big eyes, spotted freckles engraved with youth. Finally, this photo appeared on the cover of American Time magazine published in December 27th. "Time" reporter Lev Grossman commented: "this is Zuckerberg's most natural expression: staring at you with wide eyes, as if you have a big spider on your forehead."

In December 15th, Time magazine announced that Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, was elected "the 2010 figure of the year". The reason for the election given by the times is: "if the more than 500 million people who link Facebook together, the number of the population is only inferior to that of China and India, which is equivalent to the third largest country in the world. In addition, under the leadership of Zuckerberg, "the national people of this country" also have an advantage because they have the most information.

As early as the early November, suer knew the result. At that time, Carla Pollack, director of photography of times magazine, told him the secret and invited him to take a series of photographs. "At that time, we also signed a confidentiality agreement. "The times" has been elected for more than 80 years, and has never leaked ahead of time. I can't even leak half a word to my wife. " In December 23rd, he recalled in an exclusive interview with the the Bund pictorial.

Su Le, 42, was an assistant to Anne Leibowitz, a famous American photographer. In the late 90s of last century, he began filming portraits of many political and entertainment celebrities including Clinton, Obama and Brad Peter. His work was praised by critics as "let you feel the breath of the other person, but it is also breathless."

After receiving the filming of the times, suer flew from New York to San Francisco twice and photographed Zuckerberg for two times, which took more than 1 hours. He also visited Facebook's headquarters in Palo Oddo, California. This post industrial era office has a thick "Silicon Valley style". The number of concrete floors, steel beams and windows is numerous. What's most surprising is that its fashionable ceiling has hung all kinds of cartoon designs appearing in "super Marie" games. Sule also catches Zuckerberg's bar, "Antonio's nut room", which is often visited by Zuckerberg. He has Zuckerberg's favorite pet: a gigantic toy gorilla.

"Mark's heart seems to hide a child. Not only is he so, but his whole team seems to be childlike. " Su Le commented.

      "He often falls into silence."

Facebook is headquartered in the city of Palo Oddo, California, USA. This city of 60 thousand people is called the center of Silicon Valley. Sul first met Mark Zuckerberg in the back garden of Facebook headquarters. At that time, Lev Gross, a reporter for the times, visited Zuckerberg. On the side of the times, the director of photography and Facebook's public relations discuss whether they can take a few photos first. However, the shooting ended in Zuckerberg's silence.

At the very beginning, Zuckerberg took the initiative to shake hands with Su le and threw out the topic: "do you use Facebook? How do you feel?"

"I don't need it. My 21 year old son registered an account for me. But I find that I am still not used to communicating with him online. Suer asked rhetorical questions.

"What about you? Do you use Facebook yourself?"

    "Of course." Zuckerberg answered.

Since then, the two have no more dialogue. "Mark's expression has been somewhat dignified, and his eyes are lacking in looks, as if he were angry." Sule said. This time, he did not get a satisfactory picture.

Facebook's staff told suer: communicating with Mark is a very challenging thing. He treats conversation as a way to transmit data as fast and efficiently as possible, rather than a recreational activity. Mark spoke very quickly and accurately. If there was no data to exchange, he would be in silence. Like Zuckerberg, Facebook's top management is a group of little kids.

The second shot was a studio in San Francisco Time magazine. In order to activate the atmosphere, sulert brought a mini record player. This is a magic weapon for his portrait.

In 2004, he filmed "the year of the year" for "New York guest" magazine. The winner was Obama, then the Democratic senator of Illinois. When Obama heard the music played by suer, he danced with excitement and quickly entered the shooting stage. In 1998, when Clinton was still in office for president, suer went to the White House to shoot a portrait for him, playing the music of master Mills Davies, and Clinton listened with interest.

Su Le's "music magic weapon" that failed frequently failed in Mark Zuckerberg. At first, when Zuckerberg came to the studio, Sul played the songs of the pearl jam band, but Mark was obviously not interested in this old punk rock band. Although the stereo surround effect is very good, Zuckerberg did not mention it, but just self combed curly hair, let them appear fluffy, not too close to the scalp. He whispered to Mark Zuckerberg's staff that Zuckerberg liked the Green Day, the three American rock band. Unfortunately, he did not bring the record of "Green Day" on that day. So he traded a popular rock band, Phoenix, with the former style. Unfortunately, Zuckerberg still regards it as "air".

    Sule's second move is "chatting". Fortunately, it worked. After successfully filming the portrait, suer decided to take another picture of Zuckerberg, "because his nose is so distinctive." Later, he heard Facebook employees say that Zuckerberg likes the side view very much. Whenever employees can't get his opinion, he often turns around and looks at the other side, so that you can see his side nose. "That's not impolite. Mark means that if you can't make good use of this time, he will find other ways to make better use of the time. An employee told Sul. {page_break}

      Dormitory office

The second stop of Sule's shooting is Facebook headquarters. Those are two office buildings, separated by only a few minutes. The appearance of the building is the architectural style of the beast, and the word "hacker" is everywhere. Facebook's office is also known as the "Blue House" because Mark is a red and green color blind, so the office uses a lot of blue and white.

"Mark clearly regards this as a continuation of a university student dormitory." Sule told reporters.

What impressed him most was that Forbes, who was estimated to be worth $6 billion 900 million by the "Forbes", created the "empire" of Internet social networking. Like Zuckerberg, Facebook's top management was a group of little children, even without an independent office.

Facebook the whole office is completely open, no cubicle, just office furniture. The only enclosed area in the office is the conference room "Aquarium". The name comes from the fact that the room is located in the middle of the office area, and three sides are transparent glass, so everyone can clearly see the situation inside. A staff member revealed that the office was built as a "dormitory" to commemorate "Facebook was born from the dormitory of Harvard University".

"His desktop is even simpler than ordinary employees. There is a DELL computer on the other employee's desk. And there was only one laptop on his desk, and a few bamboo leaves hung down from the sky and shook on his desk. Su Le recalls.

One of the 12 people on earth has Facebook accounts. In order to represent Facebook as a whole, four photographers from time magazine went to Japan, India, France and Ireland to take the local Facebook office. As a result, photographers found that each office had a common feature: they made the corresponding national flag according to the different nationalities of their employees and hung it on the top of the office as decoration.

But in the US Facebook headquarters, Sul did not see many flags. "Walking into the office, as if in the super Marie world, on the ceiling of the office, there are white clouds, red mushrooms, gold coins, and green vines hanging by a thin string. Interestingly, those images have been carefully improved, and they have also been infected with Chinese elements. Gold coins are designed to resemble the shape of copper coins in ancient China, while green vines are made of bamboo leaves.

Su Le found that Facebook employees are well paid: three meals a day free, no snacks, the hall is stacked with two skateboards, free dry cleaning clothes, and there are kitchens, special wine table, and special audio-visual room, which contains jazz drums and electric guitars, and a huge chessboard. Sule also found that Facebook's beverage cabinet offered 8 choices, including cola zero and orange pop, and the machine could automatically add ice.

"In the office of Facebook, employees who don't wear suits go to work. Everyone looks young and no more than 30 years old." When he was 42 years old, he felt like he was getting old with his camera. "There are boys everywhere. After questioning, only 3 people over the age of 40 were found.

At present, celebrities, including George W. Bush and Clinton, have visited the "Blue House" and admire the humanized facilities of the "Blue House". But Mark's "classmate" rarely appears in the music room, chess room or bar set up in the office.

       Mark's "private time"

"He is very shy, and he is very introverted. He doesn't seem to know anyone, but actually he is very enthusiastic. Speaking of his boss, Zuckerberg, chief operating officer of Facebook, Cheryl Sandberg said: "he is very concerned about colleagues who work together." Zuckerberg is the youngest person of the times since 1927.

Every day after work, Zuckerberg often goes to a bar called "Antonio's nut room" next to his office. He doesn't dance or listen to music, but prefers to drink vodka on the side while writing programs. In the movie social networking, Mark is fond of apple Martini. In fact, he never drank it.

One day, suer was invited by Zuckerberg to come to Antonio's nut room. As soon as she went in, she saw a line at the gate and was stunned. "Please be careful with women who are snaked and loose." The bar was small and dark, and the walls were covered with graffiti and everything looked dirty. Sul looked at the wine list and found that the featured drinks, Cranberry Vodka, $5 and orange cocktail were only $4. Such a cheap bar often attracts some young people to visit. Some of them are very young.

Zuckerberg found a table near the door, sat down, ordered a cup of raspberry vodka, and turned on the Macintosh. By opening the computer, he grabbed a free peanut on the table and went to a giant gorilla in a cage in a bar. It is a tall imitation toy gorilla with high human faces and fierce faces. It will put its furry palm out of its cage and beg for food. He fed the orangutans and looked up at the gorilla's expression.

Although Zuckerberg, 26, has created a great Internet social Empire, sometimes he is still childish. Just like he will take his family to Orlando's Harry Potter magic world tour on Thanksgiving Day and buy a wand for commemoration.

The top management of Facebook is also a group of little children. Facebook Chamath Parry, the vice president of growth, mobile and internationalisation, Mike, vice president of the project, Jonathan Heiliger, vice president of technology operations and Chris Cox, vice president of products, are regular customers of Antonio's nut room. They will join Zuckerberg in ordering cheap dishes in a cheap Mexico restaurant, then play billiards, table football and darts. "The whole executive team looks very much like a group of high school students. Everyone is wearing a casual shirt and jeans. Most of them wear lustrous leather shoes, but Mark sports shoes are not feet. Sule said.

When five people gather together to take photos, Chamath, who loves to play the treasure, takes out a darts. The top is on the fingers, while Zuckerberg sits on a high chair next to him. He spreads his hands on two thighs and giggles at Chamath.

"Aren't you nervous about the camera?" asked Sue.

"Not nervous. It's really relaxing." Zuckerberg answered without hesitation.

In November 2010, in order to promote the photo sharing function of Facebook, Zuckerberg uploaded several photos of his Chinese girlfriend Priscilla Chen in his Facebook. One of them was two men holding two toy swords and fighting in the office. The Times reporter found that Zuckerberg did not have many hobbies. Besides learning Chinese, only fencing. He used to be the captain of high school fencing team. So they asked Facebook's public relations whether they could take a picture of fencing. The public relations quickly agreed.

Then one day, suer came to Zuckerberg's residence downstairs. Zuckerberg rented an old apartment near his Facebook headquarters office with his girlfriend. "The apartment looks like it has been around for many years, and there are thick black spots on the walls, like ink, from the corner of the wall. It can be found on the wall. There is a little pit near the steps of the apartment building. There is a little yellow hole in the side of the apartment. The 26 year old founder of Internet social Empire lived a life of Puritanism.

Zuckerberg is still a third class casual wear, jeans and sports shoes. Beside him, a boy of five or six years old, wearing a face mask and wearing professional white fencing suit, was armed and fighting. Zuckerberg didn't want to fight with a 5 year old boy before the shot. So he grabbed the mask and grabbed the sword to the ground and put up a pose that won the battle. Next to the 5 year old boy, he stabbed his waist with a sword. He laughed without saying anything.

Suer later learned that the boy was the son of Facebook chief operating officer, Cheryl Sander Berg. More than two years ago, Mark dug her up from Google. Soon, the woman became his golden partner, helping Facebook get through the most dangerous stage in the development cycle of the start-up company, the rapid growth period.

Sander, 41, is one of the 3 employees of Facebook company over 40 years old. Why is she so elegant and talkative that she is willing to work for Zuckerberg who is not very communicative? One of the reasons is that Zuckerberg promised her that she could teach her son Sander's fencing skills without reservation.
