What Will Be The "World Second" With No Respect?

    2010/8/5 20:09:00 40

    World Second Purchasing Power Pformation

In an interview with the media, Yi Gang, vice president of the central bank, said recently that China was actually the second largest economy in the world. Although the market had already had discussions and speculation, it was the first time that the conclusion came from Chinese officials.

However, in China, public opinion is almost one-sided questioning the significance of this milestone.

The view that China will become the "second world" economy has a long history.

    purchasing power

In terms of parity, China has already realized that, even with GDP, last year China was about 5 trillion and 10 billion dollars, while Japan was 5 trillion and 100 billion dollars.

In the first half of the year, China's GDP growth rate was 11.1%, while Japan's forecast for the same period would not exceed 2.5%. Therefore, although there is no data that China is already the "world second" conclusion, it is reasonable to surpass Japan.

However, domestic opinion is not welcome for this good news, because this highlights an unpleasant fact.

According to the population base, "world second"

    Gross domestic product

The total per capita is only about 38000 US dollars, after ranking 100% in the world.

In fact, if per capita disposable income is considered lower.

The average disposable income of urban residents and the per capita net income of rural residents in China are statistically divided. In 2009, the two figures were 17175 yuan and 5153 yuan respectively.

If calculated according to the urbanization rate of 50%, the average annual per capita income of China last year was about 11000 yuan, or about 1600 US dollars.

This means that ordinary people have not gained the same growth in the rise of China's economy.

Specifically, the distribution gap of national income is too large.

If the purpose of economic growth is to enhance the well-being of the people, even if the "world second" is achieved, it is far from this goal.

Although there is a psychology of sour grapes, the Japanese media described China as "an imaginary economic power" as objective.

According to data, such as economic growth rate, vehicle sales and foreign exchange reserves, China has indeed become an economic power; if output is calculated, steel and cement, automobile appliances, textile shoes and hats and so on are the world's largest producers.

But an economic power does not mean an economic power.

First, China's growth depends on investment and exports. This growth mode is not sustainable, and if it fails to pform successfully, it will probably lose its prosperity and wealth. Second, China is almost a Shanzhai production system, mainly relying on cheap labor to create low-end products, and the power of innovation is far behind that of the developed western countries. With the increase of overcapacity, the growth space is limited. Third, China's unfair distribution way almost blocked China.

    Transformation

China is not the time to celebrate the "world second", but the most serious challenge for economic growth.

In fact, the "second of the world" is not welcomed by the official media.

It is believed that second of the western media's speculation in China's global economy has political intentions and conspiracies.

Its purpose is to peddle the "China Responsibility Theory", forcing China to shoulder more responsibilities and obligations beyond its capability, and ask China to make more concessions in many areas such as trade and investment, climate change, energy development, and so on.

And trying to separate China from the camps of developing countries, while compressing China's rights and interests as a developing country, and alienating relations between other developing countries and China.

The problem is that China's economy has become the "world second" objective fact. No matter how per capita, the size of at least second big economies will have an important impact on the global economy, resources and climate change, and should bear corresponding international obligations, even if the current global political and economic system is unfair.

China used to rely on the rise of the economy to gain confidence and strive for international power corresponding to the status of great powers, such as increasing voting rights in the International Monetary Fund.

We can not exclude the possibility of increasing responsibilities while yearning for power. This is a balancing game.

It should be pointed out that it is because of the lack of sense of responsibility for the people that the real impetus for China's economic growth is not to promote the well-being of the people, but the practice of assessing the achievements of the government by GDP, although this development is even on behalf of the natural and social environment that undermines the survival of the nation.

Therefore, China can not pursue the total amount of growth within the country, neglect the well-being of the nation, and not strive for power and respect outside the country.

We believe that it is more important to be a responsible government than a strong government. This is the basis for winning support and respect, and it is not based on outstanding ranking.
