    2010/5/28 15:14:00 98

    World Expo

Moderator: Good morning, everyone, very much welcome today's curator of British Pavilion Lorna Miles to participate in our Sina live broadcast activities.

Curator of the British Pavilion: Hello, everyone, I am Lorna Miles, curator of the British Pavilion.

Host: before we begin, can Lorna give us a brief introduction?

Director of the British Pavilion: my main job is to take charge of the main activities of the British Pavilion. During the period in World Expo, I will assist in the development of over 150 commercial activities, and I hope to provide an unforgettable tour experience for all visitors.

Host: so what do you do before you join the British Pavilion team?

Director of the British Pavilion: I was on maternity leave before joining the British Pavilion, and I gave birth to my daughter in Shanghai.

Host: I am very curious. Why do you apply for such a job as curator of the British Pavilion?

Director of the British Pavilion: I think this will be a very rare opportunity in my life. This is a very meaningful experience in my life.

Host: how long have you been in China?

Director of the British Pavilion: it has been two years now.

Host: two years is a long time. Have you ever been to other cities in China or lived in other cities?

Director of the British Pavilion: in China, I have always lived in Shanghai. Besides Shanghai, I have visited other cities. My favorite city is Beijing. I like the feeling of historical sites.

Moderator: I believe Sina users in Beijing should be very excited to hear this sentence. What do you think of Shanghai?

Director of the British Pavilion: I live in a small town in England. There are about more than 1000 people in the town. The life in Shanghai is totally different from that in my previous life. I like Shanghai very much. Shanghai is a very dynamic and fast-paced city. I like it very much.

Host: do you think this is a habit of eating here?

Is there anything in particular that you like?

Director of the British Pavilion: I like Chinese food very much. My family love it. My son can eat 20 small steamed buns in a meal.

Host: as we all know, World Expo will end in October of this year. What are your plans after World Expo?

Director of the British Pavilion: World Expo should be a very busy stage. After World Expo, I want to take a long vacation. At that time, I hope I can still live in Shanghai.

Moderator: you just said that during World Expo, there will be more than 150 commercial activities. Besides, what other activities are there?

Director of the British Pavilion: of course there are many. During the period of World Expo, the British Pavilion will have many public performances, including the very traditional and classic British culture and art, and even to some contemporary art exhibitions. We will announce the arrangement of cultural and artistic aspects in the near future.

Host: World Expo was originally born in England in 1851 and came to Shanghai this year.

From the perspective of World Expo, Britain and China may have closer ties.

From this point of view, does the British Pavilion plan to exhibit some of the origins of World Expo?

Director of the British Pavilion: the origin of World Expo in England, I feel very happy and proud.

We can see that the design of the British Pavilion is like an open gift. It is an open gift from the United Kingdom to the Chinese people and even the people of the world. We do not want to miss this opportunity to show the origin of World Expo.

But the origin of World Expo is a long history. There are many stories to tell. I hope you can visit the official website of our British Pavilion (http://www.ukshanghaiexpo.com) to find more contents. Of course, we will have some related exhibitions at the British Pavilion.

Moderator: now all countries are actively preparing for the construction of the National Pavilion. What about the construction of the British Pavilion?

Director of the British Pavilion: the progress of our construction has been proceeding according to the plan. It is very smooth. The design of the British Pavilion is very different. We also hope to highlight the advantages of creativity and innovation. Now we mainly enter the last part of the construction, and hope that this part can be displayed as the whole story of the British Pavilion.

Moderator: as far as I know, the British Pavilion has started recruiting a lot of employees. Recently, the British Pavilion guide has been recruited. Can you tell us something about the British Pavilion guide?

What do these guides want to do?

Director of the British Pavilion: Yes, now we are recruiting the guide of the British Pavilion. We hope that these guides can become ambassadors of cultural exchanges between China and Britain. They will play a very important role in World Expo. We hope they can build a bridge for cultural exchanges between China and Britain. Of course, I hope they have bilingual skills to convey the essence of culture between China and Britain.

Host: here, I would like to ask a question on behalf of sina's users. Is it that the guide of the British Pavilion must study in Britain or study and live?

Director of the British Pavilion: our recruitment is not only for those graduates who come back from England, but of course, we hope these candidates will have some connections with Britain or are interested in the UK.

I heard that more than 80 thousand students go to Britain to study abroad every year. I believe some students will be interested in this position.

Moderator: as Lorna has just said, we are not only limited to recruiting students who have experience in studying in Britain, but I hope that if you are interested, you can visit your website and send your resume.

Can you give us a brief introduction about the recruitment process?

Curator of the British Pavilion: the deadline for our recruitment is February 22nd, followed by a further interview process.

There are different schedules for the work of the British Pavilion guide.

There are two ways of working, one is full-time, and the other is 40 hours of work per week.

Part time job is expected to be 20 hours per week. We will provide uniform dress for them, and also provide very competitive salary. After the end, if the performance is good, there will be incentive for bonus.

We hope that all applicants can have a 6 month contract period to ensure that they have a full 6 months to work here.

In about two months, we can accept it for a minimum period of two months.

Host: Thank you, Lorna. Now we have many online interaction problems. One of the netizens asked, "how many rounds of interviews are there?"

Who will interview as an interviewer?

Curator of the British Pavilion: the whole interview is done by the management of the British Pavilion. We will make a decision in a round of interviews, but there will be different forms of interview.

Like group interviews, we will also have some live simulation interviews.

I hope that through interview, we can know more about the reaction of each candidate. They will face many problems at the scene. We want to see what they are doing in time.

Moderator: another netizen question, is the duration of work at least two months in a row in the British Pavilion?

For example, can we work for one month, rest for a while, and continue working for another month?

Director of the British Pavilion: as I have just mentioned, we will give priority to it. We also hope that all the guides in the UK Pavilion will have six months' complete working hours.

We will consider the possibility of short-term contracts in consideration of your arrangement.

At the same time, we may work for a month at the beginning, take a break in the middle, and work for another month, which can also be considered, but we will give priority to those who can keep working for a long time.

Host: does the British pavilion have gender bias when recruiting guides?

Will it be more inclined to recruit boys or girls?

Another question is whether all the guides in the British Pavilion are just working on the British Pavilion.

Director of the British Pavilion: we do not have any gender bias. We are just looking for the right people. As long as they are interested and suitable for the British Pavilion, we will not mind if he is male or female.

If they come to work in the British Pavilion, we hope he works only in the British Pavilion.

Moderator: Lorna has just introduced a lot of recruitment guides for the British Pavilion. I think it is clear now that we have no more time. I want to ask one last question before I finish.

What do you expect from World Expo?

Which Pavilion do you most want to see?

Director of the British Pavilion: for World Expo, I believe this will be a very pleasant and exciting time, and I believe you will have a very good experience here.

For all these pavilions, I saw from the beginning that many of the exhibition hall construction processes in the park, and now many of them are close to completion or even completed, I am very excited.

What I like most and most want to see is the China Pavilion, because the Chinese pavilion has been built for a long time. It looks very different. I really want to see what the contents of the pavilion are like.

Moderator: Thank you for joining us in today's Lorna interview. I hope we can talk to you about the British Pavilion in the near future. Thank you.

Curator of the British Pavilion: Thank you.
