DELL Foundries Are Accused Of Violating Labor Laws And Workers Work 16 Hours A Day.
The new labor contract law will be implemented in January 1st next year.
Following HUAWEI's "resignation" incident, yesterday's Hongkong media reported that DELL's acting factory had been exposed to violation of the relevant provisions of the labor law.
According to reports, a survey team from 7 universities in Hongkong pointed out that DELL's three generation factories in southern China violated the relevant provisions of the labor law through a survey of DELL's foundries.
In order to boycott DELL's sweatshop, the group launched a boycott of DELL's computer.
At present, 7 colleges and universities in Hongkong are jointly striving to include the terms of corporate social responsibility in the campus procurement policy. DELL computers may be excluded from the list of university student purchases.
In China's Hongkong and Europe and the United States, manufacturers often offer special purpose models to students in some schools. There is no difference between the configuration of the student computers and the retail models. Sometimes, because of special customization, sometimes the market configuration is higher than that of the retail market, but there is a big gap between the price and the retail models.
The three DELL generation factories are Changan Guang Bao Electronics Co., Ltd., Xu Ji Electronics Co., Ltd. and Shijie Terry plastic electronics factory. The group accuses DELL's three generation factories as "sweatshops".
According to the work of more than 60 workers in different departments, the workers worked for 16 hours per day, while the workers paid only 17 yuan a day, the average wage was 2.1 yuan, and the overtime pay was only 3.5 yuan, which was much lower than the 4 yuan stipulated by the state. Moreover, workers generally only had 15 minutes to eat time. The factory not only had bad working conditions, but also had no annual leave, maternity leave and no labor contract, and it was difficult to recover, and some jobs were more dangerous. The factory did not provide any protection measures, and there was a serious violation of the relevant provisions of the labor law.
The organization believes that this phenomenon is mainly caused by DELL's procurement and outsourcing system.
Because DELL has always pursued a "zero inventory" strategy, that is, when it receives customer orders, it will complete production and assembly within 36 hours, and promise that it will not exceed 5 days from receipt of orders to delivery to customers, so computers will not depreciate due to unsalable sales.
However, the cost of DELL computer is 8% lower than that of other competitors, but the risk is pferred to the supplier of parts and ultimately borne by the workers.
Regarding this, DELL China related personage told reporters yesterday that the three factories involved were many IT suppliers, DELL was only one of its customers, so they were not DELL factories, and the so-called "sweatshop sweatshop" was also inconsistent with the facts.
In addition, the person said that in recent years, DELL attaches great importance to the treatment of employees in China, and it is sure that it is in line with the relevant regulations, and will also urge its global suppliers to comply with the relevant norms.
It also said that in the past year, DELL has convened two global suppliers to convene seminars on the implementation guidelines for the labor laws and regulations in the electronics industry.
DELL said it is now considering whether to investigate the employment situation of parts suppliers.
Reporter's notes
Safeguarding the image of "made in China"
Yesterday, DELL computer was boycotted by 7 universities in Hongkong because of its serious violation of the relevant provisions of the labor law in its three factories in the mainland.
Although DELL has repeatedly argued that these three sweatshops are only upstream OEM companies, it has nothing to do with them. However, the problem of workers working at the bottom level has once again attracted the attention of the whole society.
In fact, the workers in the electronics industry have been working overtime, without labor insurance and low wages for a long time, and this is not the only case.
Earlier, a reporter exposed the world's largest electronics foundries Foxconn's "sweatshop" and caused tens of millions of lawsuits and even become sensational news.
It is worth pondering that the exposure of DELL's "sweatshop" is not related to the labor and social security department. It is not a journalist of "conscience of society", but an ordinary student from University of Hong Kong.
They visited several factories in Dongguan in their spare time and interviewed over 60 workers on site. They found that a large number of violations of the labor law existed in the first-line factories, and they used actual actions to protest against illegal businesses.
This behavior reminds students that labor security and supervision departments should fulfill their responsibilities.
Why can our regulatory authorities miss out on problems that even students without social resources can find?
The existence of sweatshops not only disgraced the whole industry, but also affected the image of "made in China".
