Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Vietnam over the past half century, friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in various fields have been expanded and deepened, and the volume of import and export trade between the two countries has increased significantly.

Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country with agricultural and industrial development. It has abundant crop and mineral resources. Since the 90s of last century, Vietnam has drawn on a large number of foreign investment by drawing on the "Chinese mode" and using cheap labor force, actively developing export oriented manufacturing industry and promoting economic prosperity, and has become a rising star in ASEAN in recent years.

As Vietnam and Vietnam are closer together, the economic and trade relations between Guangdong and Vietnam are also getting closer. Guangdong and Vietnam continue to expand the scale of economic and trade cooperation and deepen cooperation, so as to push forward the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries in a diversified and deep-seated direction.

According to Guangzhou customs statistics, in 2007, the trade volume between Guangdong and Vietnam reached 2 billion 450 million US dollars, and the average annual growth rate reached 6 over the past 6 years.

This year, Vietnam's stock market has dropped sharply, the exchange rate has depreciated greatly and the economic uncertainty has increased. Nevertheless, it has not affected the economic and trade exchanges between Guangdong and Vietnam this year.

In the 1~5 months of this year, the trade volume between Guangdong and Vietnam reached US $1 billion 250 million, which was 53.6% higher than that of the same period last year, accounting for 13.9% of the total volume of trade between Vietnam and Vietnam in the same period. It is China's largest trade volume with Vietnam, and the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has entered a good development stage.

Among them, Guangdong exported 920 million US dollars to Vietnam, a huge increase of 56.7%, and Vietnam's imports of US $340 million, an increase of 47.2%.

In the 1~5 months of this year, trade between Guangdong and Vietnam showed the following characteristics:

First, the monthly import and export of Vietnam has maintained a relatively rapid growth.

Imports and exports increased by more than 3 per month, of which imports and exports in May were not affected by the weakening of Vietnam's domestic economy. In May, Guangdong exported 210 million US dollars to Vietnam, an increase of 53.3%, and 84 million 370 thousand from Vietnam, an increase of 73.1%.

Trade between Guangdong and Vietnam is not affected by Vietnam's economic fluctuations.

Two, the growth rate of Vietnam's exports is significantly higher than that of Vietnam's imports.

Since the mid 90s of last century, Guangdong's import and export trade with Vietnam has been surplus, and it is showing an increasing trend.

In the 1~5 month of this year, the trade surplus between Guangdong and Vietnam was US $580 million, an increase of US $220 million over the same period last year.

Three, the economic and trade complementarity between Guangdong and Vietnam has been fully developed.

As Guangdong is one of the most dynamic provinces in China's economic development and the most developed province in Southern China, its economic development level is higher than that of Vietnam. Therefore, Guangdong and Vietnam have greater complementary relationship in economy. This complementary relationship is directly reflected in the structure of import and export commodities between the two places.

Guangdong's exports to Vietnam are mainly mechanical and electronic products, while Vietnam's exports to Guangdong are mainly products of natural resources.

Since Vietnam first overtook Australia as the largest source of imported coal in Guangdong in 2002, Guangdong's imports of coal from Vietnam further increased in 2007, reaching a record 7 million 237 thousand tons, and continued to be the largest supplier of Guangdong's coal imports. However, because of the restrictions imposed by Vietnam on coal exports this year, Guangdong's imports of coal from Vietnam decreased.

In 1~5 months, Guangdong imported 2 million 283 thousand tons of coal from Vietnam, a decrease of 11.6%, but the average import price was $58 / ton, which rose by 49.8%. Besides coal, Guangdong imported from Vietnam Vietnam leather and horse leather also increased rapidly, 7971 tons in 1~5 months, 59.5% increase; and Vietnam imported natural rubber gum 5655 tons, which is the second largest source of import of natural rubber in Guangdong.

The importation of local advantageous resources from Vietnam has provided good material guarantee for the economic development of Guangdong, and has also found a good market for Vietnam's products. The two sides have achieved the goal of "win-win" in complementary trade and economic cooperation.

In terms of exports, Guangdong and Guangdong are also more and more popular in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam's WTO accession commitments, the average tariff will be reduced from 13.4% to 13.4% in Vietnam within 5~7 years after WTO accession.

Vietnam will reduce import tariffs on 1812 consumer goods from January 2007, including wood products, motorcycles and automobiles, chemicals, plastic products, clothing and machinery.

Guangdong's export products to Vietnam are mechanical and electrical products.

Among them, the motorcycle exported more than 28 million 507 thousand US dollars, an increase of 5.2%; the air conditioner exported to US $10 million 518 thousand, and the speed increased 1.6 times.

In addition to mechanical and electrical products, the export volume of textiles, clothing, fertilizer, shoes and aluminum products made in Vietnam to Vietnam in the 1~5 months amounted to US $76 million 620 thousand, US $31 million 500 thousand, US $15 million 680 thousand and US $11 million 900 thousand respectively, which increased by 36.5%, 14.3 times, 33.4% and 18.3% respectively in Guangdong.

With the gradual deepening of the tax reduction process in Vietnam, the sales cost of Guangdong goods entering Vietnam will continue to decrease, which will make Guangdong products more competitive in Vietnam.

Due to the different stages of economic development in Guangdong and Vietnam, Guangdong has become one of the most important manufacturing bases in the world. It needs to import a large number of upstream products. The division of labor in Vietnam's industry chain can meet the needs of Guangdong's manufacturing. Guangdong should play an active role in targeting Vietnam's market demand and develop marketable products. At the same time, it will actively use the China ASEAN Expo and organize enterprises to hold fairs in ASEAN countries to export Guangdong's more advantageous products to the Vietnamese market.
