In May 30th, Sichuan animal husbandry and Food Bureau released information that pig production was seriously affected after the Wenchuan earthquake in May 12th.

According to the preliminary statistics of the Bureau, Deyang, Mianyang, Chengdu, ABA, Guangyuan, Ya'an, 6 severely damaged cities (States) lost 3 million 657 thousand and 500 pigs, and could sow 184 thousand and 500 sows. Because of the loss of sows, 1 million 845 thousand of the piglets will be reduced this year. The annual pig loss will reach 5 million 500 thousand, and the output of pork will be reduced by 385 thousand tons.

The bureau also revealed that as of May 25th, the livestock system in the province had completed 32933 farms (households) harmless treatment and environmental disinfection work, and handled 1 million 756 thousand dead animals (only), including 1 million 518 thousand pigs.

This means that during the earthquake disaster, nearly 1 million 520 thousand pigs died in the province.

In addition, the earthquake resulted in 264 casualties of Livestock Workers in cities, counties and townships, of which 19 were killed, 13 buried and 232 injured. 43 million 495 thousand and 800 of the livestock and poultry were lost (only), and the direct economic loss of animal husbandry was 18 billion 382 million yuan.

From the second half of 2007 to the spring of 2008, the market began to accept the price of finished leather, and the demand for pigskin garment leather and shoe leather had rebounded. However, there was a problem in the supply of raw leather, and the number of raw materials made in China decreased, and the supply of imported pig skin should be tightened, and prices rose all the way.

China's imported raw pigskin mainly comes from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and other places. In the past few years, the production of pigskin leather is mainly used. As the largest pig leather shoe in the world, the quantity of domestic demand and export is huge, and the demand for the original skin will continue to rise, and the shortage of the original skin will be the biggest difficulty for the enterprises.
