Jiang Qi: Entrepreneurship In Wheelchair

In an annual performance appraisal of Tsinghua Tongfang company, a young man stood out. The general manager himself nominated him to "surpass the Spirit Award" and called on all staff to learn from him.

His name is Jiang Qi, 31 years old. He is currently the technical director of Beijing Tsinghua Tongfang digital video products company.

This is probably nothing special for a healthy person.

But for a paraplegic patient in a wheelchair, Jiang Qi created a miracle of life.

In his wheelchair, he became a computer Ph.D. on Sunday, October 3, 1989.

Jiang Qi, 17 years old, is reviewing his homework at home. Suddenly, a sharp pain in his waist struck him, and he lost consciousness after more than ten minutes.

He is suffering from a rare disease. The direct symptom is paraplegia downward from a certain position of the spine. The patient is completely unconscious and athletic under the abdomen. The possibility of recovery is almost zero.

He did not speak, but he spent half a year in the hospital.

He began to think over his own future over and over again. When he realized that his life had to rely on crutches in the future, he was calm.

In two years alone at home, in addition to routine rehabilitation exercises, Jiang and Jiang only have television and newspapers.

In various reports, a new term caught his eye: computer.

In order to taste the computer, he made a simulation keyboard with paper shell and practiced fingering on it.

Once, the elder brother saw that he was hitting the keyboard skillfully, and was moved to tears.

The elder brother and sister-in-law lived in straitened circumstances, but they were still frugal to satisfy their little brother's wishes. - a month later, Jiang Qi finally had his first computer.

It was winter in 1993.

This computer immediately became the life of Jiang Qi.

In less than a year, he passed the self study examination of computer application specialty in Jilin successfully, and graduated from college in 1994.

Two years later, he took a bachelor's degree in computer software.

In 1997, he took part in the national computer qualification and proficiency examination and became a senior programmer.

In 1999, he was admitted to master's degree. In early 2003, he was admitted to Jilin University to pursue a doctorate in computer science.

In the years of hard learning, Jiang Qi had mixed feelings: he was not able to go to school to listen to a lesson when he had difficulty in movement. When he met a difficult problem, no one could counsellor. He had to rely on a large amount of data. Sometimes he needed 6 or 7 floors and no elevator. He had to go to school 1 hours in advance.

But all his efforts, Jiang Qi believed that it was very valuable - "knowledge changed my life".

In order to survive, he tried a lot of work. In order to challenge himself, he threw himself into the IT industry in order to survive. Jiang Qi tried to do many things: assembling computers, opening small restaurants, making beer wholesale, opening a roasted goods factory, buying stocks and consulting companies.

In order to prove his professional ability, he made a bold decision to abandon his existing business and apply for a job in a computer company.

The first task he took over was to write a procedure for managing fixed assets within a month.

In just a week, he finished beautifully, and the general manager was very surprised.

A month later, Jiang Qi became the manager of the software department of the company. After a year and a half, Jiang Qi was already a professional "pillar" in the company.

At the same time, he made second choices: job hopping to a large private high-tech enterprise group in Jilin Province, as a R & D project manager, leading a group to work independently.

Jiang Qi devoted himself to the research and development work. He quickly promoted to the manager of the network system software department, and successively developed projects such as "photo recognition system" combining biometrics technology.

From Changchun to Beijing, he became the technical director of the company with his own efforts. Soon Jiang Qi succeeded in achieving his third leap: joining Beijing Tsinghua Tongfang Changchun branch.

In a short span of two years, he has hosted a series of commercialized general personal software such as office, teaching, entertainment and security protection. He has set up a "collaborative office system" which includes instant messaging system, network monitoring system and printing management system.

Because of its excellent performance, Jiang Qi has been pferred to Tsinghua Tongfang, Beijing, as the technical director of digital video products company.

He is in Beijing, giving him more opportunities to accept the latest technology information, and discuss with foreign experts about the frontier products and technology in the industry, and discuss cooperation.

After the conclusion of the negotiations, those foreign experts discovered that the Chinese experts who spoke with fluent English in the past were originally self-taught disabled persons, and their admiration was beyond words.
